Is the Trinity in the book of Philemon?

“For love’s sake I prefer to appeal to you–I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus”—Philemon 1:9 ESV

In this very short New Testament book of only 25 verses, Jesus Christ is specifically mentioned eight times, God two times, and the holy Spirit is not mentioned at all. In such a brief letter, only so much can be discussed, of course, so the holy Spirit’s omission is not surprising. This is especially so when we consider that the letter’s subject matter is not primarily doctrinal, but, instead, focuses on the relationship of the wealthy Christian Philemon with his runaway slave Onesimus, whom the apostle Paul in Rome has recently converted to Christianity, and is sending him back to Philemon in Colossae with this letter, appealing to Philemon to do the right thing (Philemon 1:20-21). read more

HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN GOD?

HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN GOD?

    Has Anyone Seen God??

Some people today say they have seen God. Preachers teach that people in the Bible saw God. Is this true? What does the Bible say?

“The Son is the image of the invisible God”—Colossians 1:15 NIV

“To the King eternal, immortal, invisible“—1 Timothy 1:17 NIV

The Bible says that Almighty God is invisible. What is invisible cannot be seen by human eyes. He has always been “invisible”.  “I, Yahweh, do not change” (Malachi 3:6 NJB)

“Yahweh said, ‘ . . . no human being can see me and survive.”—Exodus 33:20 NJB read more

Does the Mention of God, Jesus, & the holy Spirit Prove the Trinity?

Does the Mention of God, Jesus, & the holy Spirit Prove the Trinity?

Trinitarians say that places in the Bible in which God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, are mentioned together prove the doctrine of the Trinity Trinitarians symbolis true. However, the Trinity doctrine goes far beyond acknowledging the existence of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. What exactly is the Trinity doctrine?

WHAT IS THE TRINITY DOCTRINE?

A very good, concise, definition by a devoted Trinitarian expert is:

“Within the One Being that is God, there exists eternally three coequal and coeternal persons, namely, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit”—The Forgotten Trinity, page 23 read more

WHO IS “THE MAJESTY IN HEAVEN”?

WHO IS “THE MAJESTY IN HEAVEN”?

Is the Bible reliable?
Who is “the Majesty” in the Bible?

Who is the “Majesty in heaven,” according to the Bible, God or Jesus?

“To the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority through Jesus Christ our Lord”—Jude 25 NIV

There is a popular song that is frequently sung in evangelical churches and groups called “Majesty” that calls Jesus Christ “Majesty”. There are two scriptures in the Bible that refer to “the Majesty in heaven”. Let’s look at them:

“The Son . . . After he had provided purification for our sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven”—Hebrews 1:3 NIV read more

IS THE TRINITY DOCTRINE TAUGHT IN JUDE?

IS THE TRINITY DOCTRINE TAUGHT IN JUDE?

The book of Jude was written by Jesus’ half brother Jude some three decades after the start of Christianity. At this stage, we would expects to find some mention of the doctrine of the Trinity, if it is true. But, just like the rest of the scriptures, there is no mention of a Trinity in Jude.

Jude 1—“To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Christ Jesus” (NIV). “God the Father” is obviously a completely separate and distinct person from “Christ Jesus”. If the Trinity doctrine were true, we would expect there to be some mention of it, or the holy Spirit (which is real), at this point, but there isn’t.

Jude 3 – “The faith delivered once for all to God’s people” (Weymouth). What is interesting about this verse is that ‘the Christian faith, or belief, was given to God’s people 100%, completely, back there in the first century (John 16:13). Did ‘the faith delivered once for all time to God’s holy people’ include the Trinity? No! There is no mention of any Trinity anywhere in the 31,100 ‘inspired scriptures’ (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Trinitarians admit that their “belief as so defined was reached only in the 4th and 5th centuries AD and hence is not explicitly a biblical belief” (Dictionary of the Bible, by John l. McKenzie, S. J.). Since the Trinity doctrine wasn’t even developed until the 4th century, long after the 1st century, it is demonstrably a “travesty of the truth” (Acts 20:30 NJB). What ‘the faith delivered once to God’s people’ in the 1st century did include are these stern warnings:

  • “Not to go beyond what is written in Scripture” (1 Corinthians 4:6 GWT).
  • ”To not take anything away from, or add anything to’ (Revelation 22:18-19) “the Word of God … the scriptures” (John 10:35 NLT).
  •  “Not to teach false doctrines” (1 Timothy 1:3 NIV).

DID JESUS CHRIST DIE IN HIS “DIVINITY”?

DID JESUS CHRIST DIE IN HIS “DIVINITY”?

    Jesus, not God
Did Jesus die only in his body, but not his deity, or divinity?

It is asserted by many that Jesus Christ was God a “God-man” in the flesh while on earth, and that he “died in his body, or flesh, but not in his deity or divinity.” First of all, Jesus is never referred to as a “deity” in the Bible. In fact, “deities” are pagan gods (Acts 17:18) LSB). Did Jesus Christ die in his  divinity?

“Surely you, Yahweh, are from ancient times, my holy God, who never dies”—Habakkuk 1:12 NJB

“My God, my Holy One, you will never die”—Habakkuk 1:12 NIV read more

Is Jesus the “I AM” In Exodus 3:14 and John 8:58?

Is Jesus the “I AM” In Exodus 3:14 and John 8:58?

    Jesus, not God
Is Jesus the “I Am” of Exodus 3:14 and John 8:58?

“God replied to Moses: I am who I am. Then he added: This is what you are to tell the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you”—Exodus 3:14 NAB

“Truly I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am”—John 8:58 NASB. Many translations of John 8:58 capitalize “I Am” so as to convey the idea of a title. As a prominent Bible study guide says,

“The ‘I am’ denotes absolute eternal existence, not simply existence prior to Abraham. It is a claim to be Yahweh of the OT” (Ryrie Study Bible note on John 8:58).` read more

Did Jesus Claim To Be God, or God’s Son, In Court?

Did Jesus Claim To Be God, or God’s Son, In Court?

Did Jesus claim to be God when he was in court, on trial for his life? Like Jesus’ enemies, Trinitarians often assert that Jesus was “claiming to be God” (John 10:33 REB). However, Jesus flatly refuted that false charge by saying, “I am God’s Son” (John 10:36). Like Jesus’ enemies, once again, Trinitarians also falsely assert that Jesus “was claiming equality with God” (John 5:18 REB). Jesus flatly refuted that false charge also, by saying: “In all truth I tell you, by himself the Son can do nothing; he can do only what he sees the Father doing” (John 5:19 NJB).

When, finally, Jesus was brought before the Jewish Supreme Court, the Sanhedrin, what was the real issue that they were concerned about?

“The high priest said to him, ‘I order you to tell us under oath before the living God whether you are the Messiah, the Son of God'” (Matthew 26:63 NAB).

This was the real issue, whether Jesus claimed to be “the Messiah, the Son of God.” They obviously knew he never ‘claimed to be God’. Notice Jesus’ response:

“The words are yours. But I tell you this: ‘from now on you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of the Almighty and coming on the clouds of heaven'” (Matthew 26:64 REB). read more

    Important Trinity Questions

    Important Trinity Questions

Notice the following quotes and then let’s look at some questions about the Trinity doctrine.

    TRINITY DEFINED

=&0=& (Latin: Trinitas, lit. ‘triad’, from trinus ‘threefold’)[1] is the Christian doctrine concerning the nature of God, which defines one God existing in three, coeternal, consubstantial divine persons:[2][3] God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit, three distinct persons (hypostases) sharing one essence/substance/nature (homoousion).—-Wikipedia

“The Father eternal, the Son eternal, the Holy Spirit eternal. The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. And yet, there are not three Gods, but one God”—Athanasian Creed

“No doctrine is more fundamental to the Faith than the Trinity”—Dr Norman L Geisler

“The Trinity is a doctrine where error is especially deadly”—Dr John MacArthur

“A cornerstone belief of the Christian faith, the doctrine of the Trinity . . . What is the doctrine of the Trinity? . . . There is only one God, but in the unity of the Godhead there are three eternal, coequal Persons where each Person is independently conscious and self-directing but never acting independently of one another and always manifesting the same character attributes and the same nature. Where in the Bible is the Trinity taught? . . . It is taught in 25 of the 27 books of the New Testament and in 13 of the 39 books of the Old Testament”—“Does the Book of Isaiah Teach the Trinity?”, Reasons to Believe (RTB) blogsite, by Hugh Ross, July 20, 2020 read more

    WHO SHOULD WE WORSHIP?

    WHO SHOULD WE WORSHIP?

    Who should we worship?

Who should we worship? “The true worshippers will worship the Father” (John 4:23). Jesus very clearly and unmistakably said that we should “worship the Father”. Trinitarians often claim “we should worship the Trinity” as their Athanasian Creed says. Most often they talk about worshipping Jesus, and sometimes they even claim to worship the Holy Spirit. But, the Bible is crystal clear on this subject. This is not a gray area. There are no accurately translated scriptures that either direct us to worship, or have anyone worshipping, Jesus, as is often heard. Jesus said in prayer that his “Father” is “the only true God” (John 17:1,3). read more
