Earth’s magnetic shield is older than previously thought
There is a BBC News article dated July 31, 2015 that reports that the earth’s magnetic shield is older than scientists previously thought. Scientists say the magnetic shield makes the earth unique when compared to other planets, because it shields out harmful solar radiation. This is only one of the thousands of “lucky accidents” making the earth just right for life! Actually, it’s the work of the “one perfect in knowledge.” (Job 36:4)
“Yahweh, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it; He established it and did not create it a formless place, but formed it to be inhabited” (Isaiah 45:18 LSB). Yahweh designed and created the earth specifically for his purpose for it “to be inhabited.” This would include earth’s uniquely fantastic protective magnetic shield, or field.
WHY EARTH’S MAGNETIC SHIELD IS UNIQUELY PROTECTIVE
- Strong Geodynamo: Driven by churning molten iron and nickel in Earth’s outer core about 1,800 miles down, it creates powerful electric currents that sustain a robust global magnetic field.
- Atmospheric Preservation: Unlike Venus and Mars, which lost most of their air and water to solar wind, Earth’s continuous shield traps and deflects harmful solar radiation, keeping our atmosphere intact.
- The Van Allen Belts: It captures dangerous high-energy particles in twin doughnut-shaped zones, safely storing them far above the planet’s surface.
- Ancient Longevity: Evidence from tiny crystals shows Earth’s magnetic field has protected the planet for at least 4 billion years, which precedes the arrival of life on earth.
